Roster Changes for TLD KTM at High Point

The Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/KTM effort has announced some changes to its 250 Class lineup ahead of Saturday's Circle K High Point National.

The team's two most experienced riders, Shane McElrath and Jordon Smith, will not be on the gate for this weekend's race. McElrath will miss at least High Point, on the mend from a recent crash in training that left the former race winner shaken up. He currently sits 11th in the 250 Class standings, and will look to return to action at the Florida National. For Smith, a lingering wrist injury has forced the North Carolina to get surgery, which will effectively bring his 2019 season to a premature end. He currently sits 14th in points.

The injuries to McElrath and Smith are the latest instances of a misfortune-plagued season for the Troy Lee Designs squad, who are already without Sean Cantrell (wrist) and Mitchell Falk (collarbone).

Rookie Derek Drake will assume the role as the team's lead rider, while Australian Wilson Todd will extend his fill-in role with the team for a third National. Last week, the team also announced the addition of Cameron McAdoo to its ailing lineup. The experienced racer will contest at least four Nationals with the team, with his 2019 debut slated for this weekend at High Point.
