Deltran Battery Tender RC Hard Charger Award: RedBud

Friday, July 19, 2019 | 2:00 PM

As longtime partners of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, it's fitting that Deltran Battery Tender serves as the title sponsor of the series specialty award that embodies the company's products. As a manufacturer of the world's most trusted and reliable household commercial battery chargers, jump starters, inverters, and other accessories for vehicles, Battery Tender is a lot like the most accomplished rider in the history of American motocross, Ricky Carmichael.

With more than 100 career wins and 10 career championships in the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, Carmichael is the standard bearer of success, and it's why he's affectionately known as the G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time). Exactly 10 years ago, Pro Motocross cemented Carmichael's legacy in American motocross with the introduction of the Ricky Carmichael Hard Charger Award. This award recognizes the one competitor at each of the 12 rounds of the championship who overtakes the highest number of his fellow racers in either moto of the 450 Class.

The RC Hard Charger Award is a testament to the never-give-up attitude Carmichael displayed over the course of a dominant career that will likely never be duplicated. Each recipient of the Deltran Battery Tender RC Hard Charger Award is recognized at the riders meeting at the following national, where he is awarded with a custom-designed trophy.

At RedBud, Marvin Musquin's hopes for a third straight 450 Class victory were all but erased in the opening moto when he crashed on the opening lap and became trapped under his Red Bull KTM Factory Racing machine. Thanks to the help of some quick-acting track workers the bike was picked up off Musquin before the situation had a chance to get more precarious, which allowed the Frenchman to gather himself and get back into the race.

By the time he crossed the line, Musquin sat 38th in the running order. From that point on, he put together what could very well be the most resilient and impressive ride of the season, passing a total of 31 riders en route to an improbable seventh-place finish. That effort kept Musquin's hopes alive for a podium finish, which he went out and emphatically achieved by taking the Moto 2 victory.

In passing the most riders of any 450 Class rider in any moto this season, Musquin easily earned the RC Hard Charger Award at RedBud. It's the second time he's earned the award this season.
