The Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship's lone visit to the scenic Pacific Northwest is officially underway, and qualifying has wrapped up for the MotoSport.com Washougal National. Drizzly conditions in the morning added to the complexity of the sessions as a damp track added to the already slick conditions at Washougal MX Park, and put line selection and throttle control at a premium.

For a long time it looked as though the top time from Team Honda HRC's Ken Roczen in the opening session would be good enough to put the German on pole, but when the final couple minutes of the final session approached the entire field picked up their pace dramatically. While they got close, no one was able to beat Roczen's time. That was until Red Bull KTM Factory Racing's Marvin Musquin dropped the hammer on his final flying lap and moved to the top of the charts. Unfortunately for the Frenchman, his time there was brief as Monster Energy Kawasaki's Eli Tomac blew everyone away on his final lap with the quickest time of 2:15.420. That put the reigning series champion and current point leader over a second-and-a-half faster than the rest of the field, making him the fastest qualifier for just the second time this season.

In the 250 Class, a spirited final session produced a lot of drama as the top four riders all laid down their fastest times of qualifying on their last flying lap. As a result, the top spot changed hands several times in the final moments, with Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki's Adam Cianciarulo emerging atop the time sheets with a lap of 2:17.999. That gave the championship leader the edge on his primary rival, Monster Energy/Star/Yamaha Racing's Dylan Ferrandis, in second by just over a half second. It marks the first time in 2019 that Cianciarulo has set the fastest qualifying time, despite capturing the win in six of the first eight rounds this season.
