With more than 100 career wins and 10 career championships in the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, Ricky Carmichael is the standard bearer of success and it's why he's affectionately known as the G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time). In celebration of Carmichael's legacy Pro Motocross has been recognizing the most determined rider at each respective round of the championship with the Ricky Carmichael Hard Charger Award for more than a decade. This award recognizes the one competitor at each of the nine rounds on the schedule who overtakes the highest number of his fellow racers in either 450 Class moto.
As a manufacturer of the world's most trusted and reliable household commercial battery chargers, jump starters, inverters, and other accessories for vehicles, Battery Tender and its products embody the same spirit of Carmichael. As a result, its fitting that the globally renowned brand lends its support to the award, as a testament to the never-give-up attitude Carmichael displayed over the course of a dominant career that will likely never be duplicated.
Each recipient of the Deltran Battery Tender RC Hard Charger Award is recognized during the riders meeting at the following national and is awarded with a custom-designed trophy.
At the historic season-opening Circle K Loretta Lynn's National a challenging track put the skills of every rider in the 450 Class field to the test. After a stellar first moto in which he battled his way through the field to earn a podium finish, Monster Energy Yamaha's Justin Barcia was faced with an even tougher task in Moto 2 following a 22nd-place start. Ever the resilient rider, Barcia went to work and charged through the field, ending the day with a valiant seventh-place finish after passing 15 riders. His 4-7 moto scores were enough to place Barcia in a tie for fourth overall, just off the podium.
