Monster Energy/Star/Yamaha Racing rider Christian Craig made one of the first official moves for the 2022 season with an extension of his current deal with Yamaha's factory racing effort. He will compete aboard both a YZ250F and YZ450F next season, beginning the year as a 250SX competitor in AMA Supercross before making the move into the 450 Class for the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship. It's the same approach Craig has employed for the 2021 season.

Craig enters the Pro Motocross season on the mend, mere weeks removed from surgery to put a plate on a fractured fibula suffered at the penultimate round of supercross, on April 24, in Salt Lake City. He underwent surgery on April 27, returned to the bike on May 14, and lined up on the gate for the season-opening DirtBikeKidz Fox Raceway I National on May 29, finishing 12th overall (11-9). He enjoyed the best Pro Motocross effort of his career last season, finishing sixth in the final 450 Class standings.
