FMF Privateer Power Award: Unadilla National

Wednesday, August 18, 2021 | 1:15 PM

For nearly 50 years Southern California's FMF Racing, one of the most iconic names in the industry, has  poured all its resources into developing the finest exhausts available in the motorcycle marketplace. Throughout its tenure as a partner of the world's most prestigious off-road motorcycle racing championship, FMF has sought to leverage its support of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship by bringing well-deserved attention to the underdog racers who fight tooth and nail each weekend as a privateer. As a result, the FMF Privateer Power Award has become an embodiment of what the brand stands for, and what these lesser-known racers epitomize every time the gate drops.

Each week, FMF and the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship will recognize the rider that deserves to be celebrated for his efforts at every stop of the 12-round season. Each selected rider will be recognized for his ability to defy the odds and capture head-turning results, showing no intimidation as he battles alongside some of the sport's biggest names in what is considered to be the deepest field of talent ever assembled in series history.

Each recipient of the FMF Privateer Power Award will be given special recognition as part of the riders meeting at the following national and is awarded with a custom-designed trophy.

What a year it's been for Delaware's Coty Schock. Dating back to supercross, the FXR/Chaparral/Honda rider has regularly turned heads with his ability to compete alongside the 450cc division's most formidable talent. He's kept that momentum rolling all summer and continues to get better, becoming a consistent contender for a top-10 finish. In fact, Schock has finished inside the top 15 in five of the eight rounds thus far, doing so in what is widely recognized as the deepest 450 Class field in Pro Motocross history.

At Unadilla, Schock took another step in his progression by breaking into the top 10 for the first time this season. His 10th-place finish equaled a career-best result following 12-10 moto scores, which were the exact finishes he recorded en route to his initial career-best performance at Fox Raceway in 2020. With its endless ruts and demanding terrain, Unadilla was considered the toughest track yet on the 2021 calendar, which further emphasizes the effort Schock put forth.

Shock's continued success this season has made him a popular choice for the FMF Privateer Power Award, where he's already a two-time recipient this season from the Fox Raceway I National and the RedBud National. On the heels of another career-best effort, it's hard not to celebrate his achievements yet again, resulting in a third FMF Privateer Power Award accolade for Schock following his stellar ride at Unadilla.
