FMF Privateer Power Award: Budds Creek National

Thursday, August 26, 2021 | 1:15 PM

For nearly 50 years Southern California's FMF Racing, one of the most iconic names in the industry, has  poured all its resources into developing the finest exhausts available in the motorcycle marketplace. Throughout its tenure as a partner of the world's most prestigious off-road motorcycle racing championship, FMF has sought to leverage its support of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship by bringing well-deserved attention to the underdog racers who fight tooth and nail each weekend as a privateer. As a result, the FMF Privateer Power Award has become an embodiment of what the brand stands for, and what these lesser-known racers epitomize every time the gate drops.

Each week, FMF and the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship will recognize the rider that deserves to be celebrated for his efforts at every stop of the 12-round season. Each selected rider will be recognized for his ability to defy the odds and capture head-turning results, showing no intimidation as he battles alongside some of the sport's biggest names in what is considered to be the deepest field of talent ever assembled in series history.

Each recipient of the FMF Privateer Power Award will be given special recognition as part of the riders meeting at the following national and is awarded with a custom-designed trophy.

AEO Powersports GASGAS rider Ty Masterpool is no stranger to contented at the head of the pack in the 250 Class. The former Rookie of the Year has always had a penchant for grabbing good starts, which more often than not puts him in an ideal position to challenged for a top-five finish. Throughout the 2021 season the Nevada-born rider has shown why he's a factory-level competitor, consistently punching above his weight to go bar-to-bar alongside the division's top talent. Because of this, it was no surprise to see him put the red fenders of his GASGAS at the front of the field at the Circle K Budds Creek National.

After a solid opening moto in which he finished eighth, Masterpool got a stellar jump out the gate in Moto 2 to emerge inside the top three. While a tip over ultimately dropped him several positions, Masterpool's determination never wavered and he continued to battle back from the misfortune to earn a hard-fought ninth-place in the final moto. By virtue of his 8-9 moto scores, Masterpool finished eighth overall for his best collective outing of the season. It marked his third top-10 finish of the summer, including back-to-back outings that give him momentum heading into the final three rounds of the 2021 campaign.

By virtue of his impressive performance, Masterpool was named recipient of the FMF Privateer Power Award from Budds Creek.
