FMF Privateer Power Award: Ironman National
Thursday, September 2, 2021 | 2:00 PM
For nearly 50 years Southern California's FMF Racing, one of the most iconic names in the industry, has poured all its resources into developing the finest exhausts available in the motorcycle marketplace. Throughout its tenure as a partner of the world's most prestigious off-road motorcycle racing championship, FMF has sought to leverage its support of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship by bringing well-deserved attention to the underdog racers who fight tooth and nail each weekend as a privateer. As a result, the FMF Privateer Power Award has become an embodiment of what the brand stands for, and what these lesser-known racers epitomize every time the gate drops.
Each week, FMF and the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship will recognize the rider that deserves to be celebrated for his efforts at every stop of the 12-round season. Each selected rider will be recognized for his ability to defy the odds and capture head-turning results, showing no intimidation as he battles alongside some of the sport's biggest names in what is considered to be the deepest field of talent ever assembled in series history.
Each recipient of the FMF Privateer Power Award will be given special recognition as part of the riders meeting at the following national and is awarded with a custom-designed trophy.
To call Coty Schock's 2021 season a breakout would actually be considered an understatement. Given the incredible depth of talent in the 450 Class field, anchored by a long list of factory riders, what Schock has accomplished this summer is simply unheralded. For the first time in his career the Delaware native has amassed a top-10 streak, which currently sits three races. Even more impressive, his latest eye-opening effort resulted in a best-ever result of sixth for Schock at the Ironman National.
To provide some perspective on how exceptional his sixth-place performance was, the five riders that finished ahead of Schock have all won a Pro Motocross National, with four also holding an AMA National Championship to their credit. That is the cream of the crop in the premier division, with Schock just outside of a breakthrough top-five finish that has become increasingly difficult to come by in this stacked class.
With each passing week, Schock's confidence continues to grow as he not only becomes more accustomed to racing in the top 10, but expects that kind of effort from himself. The FMF Privateer Power program has recognized Schock's progression throughout the season and celebrates his ability to consistently defy the odds.
With his best performance to date, Schock has been named the recipient of the FMF Privateer Power Award for an incredible fourth time this season as he continues to make his case as arguably the best story of the 2021 campaign.
