FMF Privateer Power Award: Fox Raceway II National

Wednesday, September 8, 2021 | 4:00 PM

For nearly 50 years Southern California's FMF Racing, one of the most iconic names in the industry, has  poured all its resources into developing the finest exhausts available in the motorcycle marketplace. Throughout its tenure as a partner of the world's most prestigious off-road motorcycle racing championship, FMF has sought to leverage its support of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship by bringing well-deserved attention to the underdog racers who fight tooth and nail each weekend as a privateer. As a result, the FMF Privateer Power Award has become an embodiment of what the brand stands for, and what these lesser-known racers epitomize every time the gate drops.

Each week, FMF and the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship will recognize the rider that deserves to be celebrated for his efforts at every stop of the 12-round season. Each selected rider will be recognized for his ability to defy the odds and capture head-turning results, showing no intimidation as he battles alongside some of the sport's biggest names in what is considered to be the deepest field of talent ever assembled in series history.

Each recipient of the FMF Privateer Power Award will be given special recognition as part of the riders meeting at the following national and is awarded with a custom-designed trophy.

One week after earning a career-best finish, Coty Shock, the breakout rider and unsung hero of the 2021 season, backed up that effort with another stellar performance at the Fox Raceway II National. In recent weeks, the Delaware native has become a fixture in the top 10 of the highly competitive 450 Class. With each passing moto Schock's confidence seems to grow even higher and it's allowed him to finish the season with a ton of momentum.

The series' second visit to Southern California signified the hottest temperatures of the season for the world's fastest riders. As the heat approached the tripe digits, the racers were forced to not only withstand the immense heat, but also a very difficult racetrack that got increasingly rougher as the day wore on.

Schock was able to make the challenge of completing two 30-minute-plus-two-lap motos a bit easier on himself by grabbing good starts that put him in the front portion of the field. Without being forced to fight through traffic, Schock was able to focus on riding his own race and maintaining his energy levels. The end result were a pair of seventh-place finishes that landed him seventh overall, just one spot off equaling his career-best result. Shock is now in the midst of a streak of top-10 finishes that now sits at five motos and has resulted in ninth, sixth, and seventh-place efforts in the overall standings the past three rounds.

As the continued flag bearer for privateers in the sport, Shock has been given an unprecedented fourth FMF Privateer Power Award for his extended streak of impressive finishes. He'll look to finish the season on a high note at the Hangtown Classic.
