The current top seed in the SMX World Championship will undergo a procedure to his knee with the goal of making his return for the SMX Playoffs

Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing rider and reigning Monster Energy AMA Supercross Champion Cooper Webb will miss the remainder of the Pro Motocross Championship in order to undergo a procedure to address a knee injury suffered at the RedBud National. The current #1 seed in the SMX World Championship will all but surely lose his hold of the top spot, which has slowly shrunk over the course of the summer as teammate Justin Cooper has continued to gain ground.

The procedure is expected to be minor and not keep Webb sidelined for an extended period. The intention is for Webb to return for the SMX World Championship Playoffs, which begin on September 6 from his home state of North Carolina and Concord's zMAX Dragway.

“I’m extremely bummed that I’ll be missing the upcoming rounds of Pro Motocross. I had a personal goal to make all 31 rounds this season and I’m disappointed to surrender the SMX championship lead this way," said Webb. "On the positive side, it’s a quick fix and recovery. I’ll get a small procedure done on Monday and should be back on the bike in around a month so that we can prepare for the opening playoff round in Charlotte.”
