Deltran Battery Tender RC Hard Charger Award: Unadilla

As longtime partners of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, it's fitting that Deltran Battery Tender serves as the title sponsor of the series specialty award that embodies the company's products. As a manufacturer of the world's most trusted and reliable household commercial battery chargers, jump starters, inverters, and other accessories for vehicles, Battery Tender is a lot like the most accomplished rider in the history of American motocross, Ricky Carmichael.
With more than 100 career wins and 10 career championships in the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, Carmichael is the standard bearer of success, and it's why he's affectionately known as the G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time). Exactly 10 years ago, Pro Motocross cemented Carmichael's legacy in American motocross with the introduction of the Ricky Carmichael Hard Charger Award. This award recognizes the one competitor at each of the 12 rounds of the championship who overtakes the highest number of his fellow racers in either moto of the 450 Class.
The RC Hard Charger Award is a testament to the never-give-up attitude Carmichael displayed over the course of a dominant career that will likely never be duplicated. Each recipient of the Deltran Battery Tender RC Hard Charger Award is recognized at the riders meeting at the following national, where he is awarded with a custom-designed trophy.
A challenging track meant it was going to be hard to come from behind at the 10th round of the 2019 season, but that's to be expected at legendary Unadilla. The iconic New York track celebrated 50 years at the Circle K Unadilla National, and while temperatures were exceptional, a rough, bumpy and rut-filled layout put every rider to the test in the 450 Class.
Moto 1 didn't get off the start that either Rocky Mountain ATV/MC-KTM-WPS rider Benny Bloss nor TPJ/FLY Racing's Ben Lamay had hoped for, but the veteran experience and tenacity of both riders allowed them to fight their way forward. After starting outside the top 20, Bloss aggressively made a push through the pack and successfully broke into the top 10 by the end of the moto. For Lamay, a nightmarish start of 30th meant he had even more work to do than his counterpart, but he persevered and earned some hard-fought points just outside the top 15.
Bloss' climb from 23rd to ninth, and Lamay's charge from 30th to 16th, saw them pass 14 riders apiece, which earned both men this week's RC Hard Charger Award.
